‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Reflection on the Fourteenth Doctor

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

The Fourteenth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ has come and gone by quickly, hasn’t it? It’s a TV era specifically created for the 60th anniversary celebrations of ‘Doctor Who’, and it has David Tennant, who previously played the Tenth Doctor, playing the Fourteenth Doctor in Russell T. Davies’ neo-era.

David Tennant is one of my favourite actors to play the Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, but the Fourteenth Doctor is basically another copy of the Tenth Doctor with the memories of the Eleventh, Twelfth and Thirteenth Doctors. He says “Allons-y!” a lot and he wears a suit that almost matches the Tenth Doctor’s.

His era comprises mainly of three TV specials for ‘Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary, including ‘The Star Beast’, ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ and ‘The Giggle’. There are extra appearances of the Fourteenth Doctor in the comic story ‘Liberation of the Daleks’ and the Children in Need TV mini-episode ‘Destination: Skaro’.

In his era, the Fourteenth Doctor is joined by Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, who was his companion in the Tenth Doctor era. Whilst it’s nice to see David Tennant and Catherine Tate in ‘Doctor Who’ again, the Fourteenth Doctor era is mostly a re-tread of Series 4 in the new TV show. 😐

Mind you, whilst the Fourteenth Doctor era is claimed by RTD to be over, it doesn’t mean that it’s the definite end of David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor, especially concerning he survived the bi-generation from him into Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. More Fourteenth Doctor stories can be told.

Before checking out the 60th anniversary TV specials, I included a cameo of the Fourteenth Doctor in ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’, my epic 60th anniversary story on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. I tweaked Coda III of the story slightly to feature the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna following the end of ‘The Giggle’. 🙂

Despite my criticisms of the 60th anniversary TV specials of ‘Doctor Who’ in my in-depth reviews, David Tennant continues to be one of the best actors in ‘Doctor Who’ and he does well playing the Fourteenth Doctor on TV. I hope more stories featuring the Fourteenth Doctor will be told very soon.

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
