Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
I’m already getting into the festive season, as I’ve checked out the first two episodes of the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ series ‘Hawkeye’ on Disney+. I’m pleased I’ve checked out this series so far. It’s great this series has a Christmassy theme to it. I can enjoy each episode in the build-up to Christmas.
‘Hawkeye’ of course has Jeremy Renner reprise his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye from the ‘MCU’ movies. From his debut cameo in ‘Thor’, he’s appeared in movies like ‘Avengers Assemble’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and of course the latest ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
I’ve also seen Jeremy Renner in the fourth and fifth ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies – ‘Ghost Protocol’ and ‘Rogue Nation’. It’s good Clint Barton/Hawkeye gets to have his own ‘MCU’ series for a change on Disney+. To be honest, I think the ‘Hawkeye’ show might be better than the ‘Black Widow’ film. 🙂
The series has Clint Barton trying to spend Christmas with his family. In the first episode called ‘Never Meet Your Heroes’, Clint takes his children to enjoy Christmas in New York, although the stage show version of the first ‘Avengers’ movie doesn’t bring back happy memories for dear Clint. 😦
Eventually, Clint sees a news report of someone wearing the Ronin suit. Ronin was the identity Clint assumed when he was tackling the criminal underworld between the events of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. It seems like his past has come back to haunt him at Christmas time.
Clint soon runs into Hailee Steinfeld (who you may have seen in ‘Bumblebee’ and heard as Spider-Gwen in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’) as Kate Bishop, a Hawkeye fan who soon becomes his protégée. She also wore the Ronin outfit when she stole it from a dodgy charity auction gala in NYC.
Soon, Hawkeye and Kate work together as they solve the mystery of the Tracksuit Mafia wanting to have the Ronin outfit for themselves. There’s bound to be hijinks and danger along the way, especially at around Christmas time. But who is the main villain behind the current goings-on in NY?
The first episode ‘Never Meet Your Heroes’ focuses a lot on Kate Bishop’s character more than on the scenes where Clint Barton is spending time with his family. I suppose Disney+ released two episodes of ‘Hawkeye’ first since the second episode ‘Hide and Seek’ features more of Hawkeye in it.
As well as Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, the series also has Vera Farmiga as Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother and a successful businesswoman. There’s also Fra Fee as Kazimierz ‘Kazi’ Kazimierczak, who happens to be a mercenary for the Tracksuit Mafia, as they hunt our two heroes.
There’s Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne, who happens to be Eleanor’s new fiancé. Duquesne seems to be villainous so far in the series, and Kate clearly doesn’t like him. There’s also Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo, the deaf leader of the Tracksuit Mafia who appears at the end of the second episode. 😐
The series also features Brian d’Arcy James as Derek Bishop, Kate’s father, who gets killed early on in the first episode of the series. There’s also Aleks Paunovic as Ivan, an enforcer of the Tracksuit Mafia; and Piotr Adamczyk as Tomas, another enforcer of the Tracksuit Mafia. They’re a mean lot! 😀
Linda Cardellini also appears in the series, reprising her role as Laura Barton, Clint’s wife from the ‘MCU’ films. I liked the phone call scenes Clint has with Laura, especially in the second episode. Laura seems patient and understanding once Clint explains his dilemma about getting home for Christmas.
There’s also Simon Callow as Armand Duquesne III, Jack’s uncle in the series. Simon Callow is known for playing Charles Dickens in ‘Doctor Who’. It was nice to see him in this series. Sadly, Armand gets killed at the end of the second episode, and a murder mystery ensues for Clint and Kate to unravel. 🙂
In the series, a golden retriever dog called Jolt who plays Lucky the Pizza Dog in this. It was fun to see Lucky, especially when he interacted with Clint and Kate. I wonder if we’ll see more of Lucky as the series progresses. Will Lucky be a vital team player or will he just appear for cuteness in the series? 🙂
After watching the first two episodes on Disney+, I’m enjoying the ‘Hawkeye’ series so far. I’m looking forward to how things progress in Clint and Kate’s journey. Clint is to be Kate’s mentor in the series, but he’s not entirely comfortable about it. Will the series end on a cheery note at Christmas?
Stay tuned for my review on the third episode of ‘Hawkeye’ next week.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂
