William Russell (1924-2024)

Hello everyone.

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.

I’m saddened that William Russell, who played Ian Chesterton – the first male companion in ‘Doctor Who’ in 1963 – has passed away. A couple of days ago, my parents and I were chatting about him, as we hoped he would live on to be 100 this year. Sadly, that wasn’t to be, but I’m happy that he lived a good life. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – 2022 Specials Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Like the Series 4/2009-2010 Specials of ‘Doctor Who’ with David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor, the Series 13/2022 Specials of the new TV show could arguably be considered Jodie Whittaker’s fourth and final season as the Thirteenth Doctor. They do have the beginning and the ending of a season. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Power of the Doctor’

– – – BRAND NEW REVIEW – – –

Merry Christmas everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

How fitting that on Christmas Day today, for the first time in the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, I’m sharing a brand-new review on a ‘Doctor Who’ story in the new TV series. It’s time to check out the third of the three Series 13 Specials of ‘Doctor Who’, which happens to be the BBC Centenary Special to celebrate 100 years of the BBC in 2022, and it’s the final story in the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall era of the new TV show. Let’s check out ‘The Power of the Doctor’ by Chris Chibnall, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Mandip Gill as Yaz, John Bishop as Dan, Janet Fielding as Tegan, Sophie Aldred as Ace, Sacha Dhawan as the Master, Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Jacob Anderson as Vinder, Patrick O’Kane as Ashad and plenty more special guest stars. There are also Daleks and Cybermen in this special ‘Doctor Who’ story, both voiced by Nicholas Briggs. In my brand-new review for ‘The Power of the Doctor’, I’m helped by Timelord007, WilliamsFan92, Wolfie and AFJ Kernow. Is ‘The Power of the Doctor’ a worthy conclusion to the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall era of ‘Doctor Who’? Did it satisfy me on all levels? ‘The Power of the Doctor’ can be checked out on DVD, Blu-ray and BBC iPlayer. Continue reading

You can check out my ‘convention memories’ blog posts and my convention reports by clicking on the images below. Continue reading

Quick TV Review – ‘The Daleks in Colour’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Okay, let me be clear about something. I love the first ‘Daleks’ story with William Hartnell, William Russell, Jacqueline Hill and Carole Ann Ford in ‘Doctor Who’. It’s one of the best William Hartnell/First Doctor era stories in the classic TV series. One I’ll happily revisit on DVD and Britbox. 🙂 Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – Season 2 Summary

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

I think it’s fair to say that Season 2 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is my favourite out of the three seasons William Hartnell did as the First Doctor. Whilst it’s sad that Susan left the series with two stories in, including ‘Planet of Giants’ and ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’, the series became more inventive. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Chase’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time for one of the most exciting ‘Doctor Who’ adventures ever made in the First Doctor era called ‘The Chase’. The Daleks return to chase the First Doctor TARDIS team throughout time and space! This story also features the last appearances of William Russell as Ian and Jacqueline Hill as Barbara. It also features the first appearance of Peter Purves as new companion Steven (although Peter plays Mortin Dill in the third episode and plays Steven in the sixth and final episode of this story). You can watch ‘The Chase’ either on DVD, Blu-ray or Britbox. Continue reading

In today’s four-part ‘Doctor Who’ adventure called ‘The Space Museum’, the First Doctor TARDIS team ends up on the planet Xeros. There, the First Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki see themselves as exhibits at a museum in their future. Can our heroes stop themselves from being preserved in the space museum by the Morok Empire? You can watch the four-part story either on DVD, Blu-ray or Britbox. Continue reading

‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon – ‘The Crusade’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s time to have another venture into history with ‘Doctor Who’, as the First Doctor TARDIS team end up in 12th Century Palestine. There, King Richard the Lionheart engages in a holy war with the Saracen leader Saladin. The story features special guest stars Julian Glover as King Richard and Jean Marsh as his sister Joanna. Sadly, only the first and third episodes of this four-part story have survived in the BBC Archives. You can check out the first and third episodes of ‘The Crusade’ in the ‘Lost In Time’ DVD collection, in the Season 2 Blu-ray box set, and/or Britbox. You can also enjoy the entire four-part story on audio CD or as a download from Audible. Continue reading
